About Songscription

We're a music learning AI lab on a mission to enable anyone to play any song they can imagine. Our first product, Songscription, is the AI-powered "Shazam for sheet music" which allows people to upload any audio and get back sheet music, MIDI, tabs, or piano roll back in minutes. Hundreds of thousands of musicians have used it to transcribe songs that have never been written down before. Our second product (beta recently released) is a learning app that lets users upload any song and learn it through an interactive piano roll with real-time feedback.

We've raised a $5M seed led by Reach Capital and been covered in TechCrunch, Billboard, and MusicRadar. The team is small, the pace is fast, and we're just getting started.

Role Description

Songscription is hiring a Founding Mobile App Developer to help shape the next generation of tools for music learning. You'll lead the development of our mobile experience from the ground up, starting with bringing our music transcription product to mobile, then transition into building a new AI-native learning app that leverages our proprietary models to enable users to learn any song, without the limitations of a static catalog.

This role is ideal for a seasoned full-stack mobile developer who wants to merge exceptional engineering skills with a love of music. You'll work closely with our engineering, design, and product teams to showcase our cutting-edge AI technology and bring a beautifully crafted, intuitive music learning experience to life. You'll join an early-stage team where the product changes quickly based on user feedback as we iterate toward product-market fit, and where your input will directly shape what we build.

Key Responsibilities

Lead mobile app development from zero to one, owning the entire codebase for iOS and Android
Architect and implement core infrastructure spanning database architecture, authentication, and payments
Ship fast and iterate relentlessly, translating product specs and design mocks into production code at exceptional speed, prototyping new features and refining them based on user feedback and usage data
As the team grows, guide junior developers and help establish Songscription's engineering culture and best practices

About You

3+ years of full-time mobile development experience, including shipping and maintaining consumer mobile apps with significant user bases
Strong command of the full mobile stack: modern mobile frameworks (e.g., React Native, Swift, Kotlin, or similar), Next.js, Tailwind, backend-as-a-service platforms (Supabase strongly preferred), authentication, payments, database design, and API integration
Deep technical knowledge and problem-solving ability. You're the kind of engineer who can teach the team new approaches, anticipate issues before they arise, and make smart tradeoffs between speed and architecture
Strong product intuition and collaboration skills. You work fluidly with product and design teams, push back constructively when needed, and have an eye for what makes mobile experiences delightful
Able to work in-person at our San Francisco Bay Area office
Experience playing an instrument and/or strong passion for music
(Bonus) Familiarity with music transcription and music data formats (e.g., MIDI, MusicXML, etc.)
(Bonus) Experience in game development or working on learning software, particularly in music
